Derived out of a love for photographic collages and artists working on the surface of existing photographs. This works looks to create a collage-like abstraction within the photograph rather than on top of it, with hopefully a similar effect.
With Asian-run nail bars in every Auckland mall these abstractions are made in nail polish. Borrowing from the Rorschach blot technique I am thinking of about how symmetry equates to beauty, traditionally and that beauty has many interpretations and references.
Special thanks to Elle Campbell-Blomeley for kindly donating her extra nail polish from her personal collection.
